ECC’s Turpin, Glen Este On Tap For Girls Volleyball

Posted on: September 5, 2016

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Lady Eagles are on the road this week, with a chance to notch that first conference win as they face two Eastern Cincinnati Conference teams.  The Eagles had a run of bad luck last week, but look for Milford to change that as they first face Glen Este early in the week.

A LOOK BACK:  Milford opened the week Tues., Aug. 30th with their first ECC contest, hosting Anderson High School.  The Eagles started strong in the first set, but lost a close one 23-25.  Anderson had gained the momentum and held on to win the following two, 13-25, 14-25 to claim the conference win over Milford.

Thursday’s ECC matchup of Milford versus rival Loveland was much anticipated and was featured live via internet.  The Tigers proved determined, and took down the Eagles in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-19.  To watch a replay, click here.

The week didn’t get any easier for the volleyball squad, as Saturday’s contest with Oak Hills proved a challenge, as well.  Despite a hard-fought first set, the Lady Eagles lost to Oak Hills 25-27, 18-25, 18-25

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The Eagles will look for their first conference win this week, as both contests on the schedule are with ECC competitors.  Glen Este sits just above Milford in the conference standings, and Turpin has already suffered a conference loss to Loveland.

  • Tuesday, 9/6:                    Milford @ Glen Este High School, 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, 9/8:                   Milford @ Turpin High School, 7:00 pm

INSIDE THE ECC:  Milford sits at 2-5 overall, having fallen to ECC leaders Anderson and Loveland last week.  Anderson and Loveland are tied at the top of the ECC standings followed by Turpin, Kings, Glen Este and Walnut Hills, all 1-1 in ECC play.  Withrow joins Milford at 0-2.

Milford leaders in the EEC top 10:

  • Serves:  Lisa Sullivan (t-7)
  • Assists:  Abby Soutter (9), Erica Sharp (10)
  • Digs:  Sullivan (2), Sharp (7)
  • Blocks:  Sharp (t-8)

POLL WATCH:   There was little movement in the top five in week four of the area coaches’ poll, as the top four remain the same: Mt. Notre Dame, Ursuline Academy, Mason and St. Ursula.  However, Turpin moved up to fifth, switching with Lakota East who now sits in sixth.  The ECC’s Loveland entered the poll in week four at ninth.  Milford garnered more attention this week and received three votes; Anderson (22) and Kings (3) joined the Eagles as well.
