Evans, Vause Set School Records, Earn Podium Finishes At State Championships

Posted on: June 3, 2023

It was a banner day for Milford Track & Field at the OHSAA State Championships as junior Caitlin Evans and sophomore Charlie Vause each recorded school records and podium finishes in their respective events.

The well-chronicled track & field rookie Evans once again stretched her own school record in the long jump, leaping 17’9 ¾”, nearly four inches better than her previous best. Her efforts netted her eighth place overall. Evans’ finish was the best by a Milford female athlete in a field event since Kim Strunk finished sixth in the shot put in 2009.

Vause, meanwhile knocked down a school record that had stood for over 30 years, blazing the 1600 meters to a time of 4:12.30 to match Evans’ eighth place finish. He was a second better than Richie Shepherd’s 1992 record and was the highest finisher by a Milford male student-athlete at state since Mike Bode took fifth in the 300 hurdles in 2002.
