Final Week of Conference Play Ahead For Girls Volleyball

SETTING THE SCENE:  The 2017 regular season winds down in the week ahead for Milford’s girls volleyball team.  The Eagles will have an opportunity to improve their conference standing, as they face Kings (5-7) and Withrow (0-12) prior to entering the postseason the following week.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Prior to the meeting with Turpin on Tues., Oct. 3, the MHS volleyball program honored seniors Tatum Skladany, Ava Stokes and Lisa Sullivan in a pregame ceremony.  Milford started strong, taking the first set 25-23. The second was close as well, but the visitors prevailed and Milford fell in the final three sets 21-25, 15-25, 18-25.

Milford headed south for an ECC date with Walnut Hills on Thurs., Oct. 5.  The Eagles of Walnut Hills defeated the Milford Eagles in straight sets; 25-17, 25-19, 25-17.  

Saturday, Milford hosted Lebanon for a nonconference meeting.  The match began with an exciting first set, when Milford hung on for the 29-27 win.  The Eagles went on to lose the final three sets, 25-20, 25-11, 25-12, for the 3-1 loss.   

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford’s final matches of the regular season are scheduled this week, both opportunities to improve their conference record.   

  • Tuesday, 10/10:           Milford @ Kings High School, 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, 10/12:         Withrow High School @ Milford, 7:00 pm

  

POSTSEASON – SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT:  The OHSAA Sectional Tournament will take place October 17th through October 25th.  The volleyball Eagles will open tournament play against Lakota West on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Lakota East High School.  Milford is seeded No. 18.  Click here to see Milford’s volleyball tournament draw.

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  Loveland remains perfect on the season in the ECC, improving to 12-0 to lead the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings.  Rivals Anderson and Turpin are now tied at 9-3, followed by West Clermont (7-5), Kings (5-7), Walnut Hills (4-8), Milford (2-10) and Withrow (0-12).  Lady Eagles who are currently ranked in the top ten of the ECC Individual Statistics include:

Attacks:  Cami Malott (t-2), Kristen Bales (t-2)

Serves:  Tatum Skladany (6)

Assists:  Abby Thierauf (4)

Digs: Lisa Sullivan (3), Bales (4), Ava Stokes (10)

Blocks:  Skladany (t-5)

Passing:  Stokes (9)

 

POLL WATCH:  Week eight finds Ursuline Academy yet again atop the area coaches’ poll for Division I girls volleyball.  Mount Notre Dame held onto second, but Mercy moved up to third while Mason fell to fourth.  St. Ursula, previously fifth for a number of the past polls, fell to sixth as the ECC’s Loveland moved from up to fifth from sixth. Anderson fell to ninth from eighth.
