Posted on: May 23, 2023

A historic season in Milford boys tennis history has resulted in five players earning All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference honors. In addition, the leader of the Eagles, head coach Michael Neverman has been named ECC Co-Coach of the Year for the 2023 season.

Senior Yusif Rustom was named one of the league’s top-three players, earning a slot on the first team. Sophomore Jaden Worden took one of the three second team slots, while junior Jack Bowsher and senior James Marshall were one of two second team doubles squads. Freshman Owen Blair was Milford’s honorable mention selection.

Under Neverman’s leadership, the Eagles soared to new heights, finishing with a program-best 14 team victories, capturing a high of second place in the ECC Tournament and advancing a pair of players to districts. Neverman is the first Eagle mentor to earn coach of the year honors in a league since Jeff Hoover in 2009.

Rustom concludes his stellar career as a back-to-back first team All-ECC player and a three-time all-conference selection overall. He also qualified for the OHSAA District Tournament two straight years. Rustom finished the year with a 13-1 record at No. 1 singles during the regular season and placed third at the ECC Tournament.

Worden broke through in a big way as a sophomore, holding down the No. 2 singles slot for the season. He finished the campaign with a 12-2 regular season record, including a 7-1 mark in league play. In ECC Tournament action, he made it to the finals, claiming runner-up honors, while also qualifying for the OHSAA District Tournament.

Bowsher and Marshall, both first time All-ECC selections, become the first Milford duo to earn all-conference honors since 2013. As a team, they finished 6-2 during the regular season, including a 3-1 ECC mark. They were the third-place finishers at the ECC Tournament in the No. 1 doubles bracket.

Just a freshman, Blair slotted in as the Eagles No. 3 singles player and finished with a sparkling 12-1 regular season mark, including a 7-1 record against ECC foes.
