Five Returnees Back As Girls Golf Team Opens 2018 Season

Posted on: August 5, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE: A full first week of competition will greet the Milford High School girls golf team as they tee off the 2018 season. Head coach Matt Thompson’s roster is an experienced one as five players return from one year ago. Thompson led the Eagles to a fourth place finish in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference in 2017 and will be looking to move up the final tally this fall.

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Monday, Aug. 6 vs. Loveland, Deer Track GC, 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Sycamore Invitational, Walden Ponds GC, 8:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 9 at ECC Preseason Tournament, Walden Ponds GC, 8:00 a.m.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: The Eagles won’t be short on experience this fall as five of last season’s six varsity players are back in the fold. Headlining the returnee list is senior Bre Severns, a second team All-ECC choice last year, who finished with a 49.9 average. Junior Meg Loux and senior Megan LaFrance also return after posting nearly identical averages of 50.3 and 50.5, respectively last season. The final two returning players did post identical averages in 2017 as seniors Morgan Clawson and Angel Oliveros each finished at 52.5.

POLL WATCH: Milford received one vote in the preseason area coaches’ poll, sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Three teams earned two first place votes each, led by first place Mason. The second and third place teams, Ursuline and Lakota East each received a pair of No. 1 votes. Sycamore and Mercy McAuley round out the top-five. The ECC is represented by Kings in ninth and Loveland in 10th, along with the Eagles in others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
