Posted on: August 21, 2021

A 21-point second quarter propelled Milford to a win in its 2021 season opener as the Eagles rolled past Edgewood 41-14. The victory was also a milestone one for Milford head coach Tom Grippa as he picked up the 200th win of his illustrious coaching career.

The Eagles’ explosive offense was flying high early on as two TD throws from Austin Hardin to Chase Duesing propelled Milford to a 28-7 lead at the half. In between Duesing’s TD hauls, Tofa Luani bulled in on a six-yard TD run, while Hardin also found Reece Davis for a short TD throw.

The second half was all Eagles as well as Luani rumbled 29 yards for one score and Davis hauled in a second TD toss from Hardin. With Milford holding a comfortable lead, the Eagles went to the ground, mainly on the broad shoulders of Natwan Webster as the junior finished with 149 yards on the ground.

Hardin highlighted the offense, finishing the night 16 of 22 through the air for 293 yards and four touchdowns. Davis was his favorite target in his varsity debut, finishing with 141 yards on eight catches. Duesing tacked on 124 yards receiving on four catches. It also marked the first time since September 13, 2019 against Loveland that two Eagles passed 100 yards receiving in the same game. That night, Vince Ringland (112) and Max Ward (101) accomplished the feat.

The Eagles are back on the gridiron next Friday night in its home opener, hosting Lakota East.
