Playing with just one day of practice this week under their belts, Milford hung tough with state-ranked Winton Woods, but the Warriors proved too much in the second half as they rattled off 35 straight points to pull away from the Eagles by a final score of 49-14. Trailing 14-7 at the half, Milford tied the game three minutes into the third quarter on a Vince Ringland eight-yard TD reception from Austin Hardin.
But Winton Woods stole the momentum right back as Tyrek Spikes took the ensuing kickoff 92 yards to the house to put the Warriors back out front. The explosive Spikes wasn’t finished as he added TD runs of 51, 52 and 63 yards later in the second half.
Milford got its first score of the game, tying the score at seven in the second quarter on Hardin’s first career TD pass, a 10-yard strike to freshman Sioni “Tofa” Luani. In his first varsity start, Hardin, just a sophomore, showed flashes of excellence, connecting on 20 of 33 passes for 207 yards. His favorite targets were Natwan Webster (51 yards) and Noah Earley (38 yards) who hauled in six balls each.
Milford returns to action next Friday night at Little Miami.
