Milford will be well represented at next weekend’s OHSAA Swimming Championship as seniors Tyler Babinec and Chase Fisher have qualified as individuals and as members of the 200 medley relay squad. The standout duo will be joined by classmate Sam Leatherwood and freshman Evan Fentress on the relay.
Babinec and Fisher will each participate in the 50 freestyle after top-10 finishes at Saturday’s district meet. Babinec is seeded 16th for state with a time of 21.31, which was good for fifth at districts. Fisher was just behind, clocking in at 21.37 to finish eighth at districts and post the 19th best time in the state.
Babinec will also take to the pool in his top event, the 100 breaststroke. He blazed to a time of 55.16 on Saturday, good enough to take third in the district and seed him third for the state meet.
The relay team was also in top form, posting the state’s fifth-best time (1:33.47) and finishing third in the district.
The Division I boys OHSAA State Championships will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. Preliminary action will begin at 9 a.m. with the finals slated to begin at 4 p.m.
