Full Week Ahead for Boys Tennis

Posted on: April 8, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Eagles have a full slate of competition in the week ahead including Eastern Cincinnati Conference foes Anderson and Turpin, who like the Eagles are ranked in the top ten of the Cincinnati Enquirer coaches’ poll.  Milford sits at 1-2 after they scored their first victory of the season last week, but fell in a tight match with the ECC’s Walnut Hills.

A LOOK BACK:  Though the match did get underway last week with Turpin, play was suspended due to thunderstorms.  The match will resume this week, on Fri., April 13.

The Eagles collected their first win, a 3-2 victory over Fairfield on Wed. April 4.  Ben Mason easily collected the win at second singles over Robertson, 6-1, 6-2, and Mark Ostrander held on in three 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 to take down Fairfield’s Randall at third singles.  The second doubles duo of Michael Faler and Mrigank Sharma also won in three over Shively/Plenz, 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.  The remaining matches were competitive, as Fairfield’s Heyser defeated Holden Owns 3-6, 2-6 and Reed Spencer and Cameron Loux fell 3-6, 2-6 to Pennington/Hicks.

In their first ECC match of the season, Milford lost a close 2-3 match with Walnut Hills.  Owens won big at first singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory of Kogan, while Mason defeated Pharris 6-2, 6-1 at second singles.  Ostrander fell in three to Mancineella at third singles, 2-6 6-4, 4-6.  In doubles play, Spencer/Loux lost to Levy/Bernard 4-6 2-6, and Faler/Sharma fell 2-6, 0-6 to Mitchell/Schnizer.

The previous week Milford lost 1-4 loss to Centerville, though the match scores were much closer than what the final score appears:  Owens lost to W Owen 3-6 6-0 2-6; Mason lost to Rowland 2-6 3-6; Spencer defeated Narayanan 3-6 6-4 6-2; Loux/Sharma lost to Kathula/Brown 6-4 5-7 3-6; and Faler/Dalziel fell to Zhang/Dubac 7-5 1-6 3-6.

A LOOK AHEAD:  A challenging week awaits #9 Milford, as three of the four teams ahead are also currently ranked in the top ten of the area coaches’ poll; #7 Lakota East, #5 Anderson, and #4 Turpin, with whom play will resume following the weather delay of last week’s match.
