Full Week Ahead For MHS Girls Tennis

Posted on: August 21, 2016

SETTING THE SCENE:  Week one is in the books for the MHS girls tennis program, and the Eagles will be tested with a challenging schedule in the week ahead.

A LOOK BACK:  The Eagles dove right into the season with a conference match with Turpin, last year’s ECC conference champ and the team currently ranked at #4.  What was to be a home opener was rescheduled due to rain, and the match was played two days later on Turpin’s home turf.  Though the Eagles fell to the Spartans, 4-1, Amanda Reinhardt prevailed for a big victory at first singles, winning over Turpin’s C. Fisher 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 6-2.  Other results include: S. Allen d. Mallory Faler 6-0, 5-2 (retired); S. Weber d. Leah Breuer 6-0, 6-0; B. Bennell/A. Musgrove d. Claire LaFrance/Emme Thomas 6-0, 6-1; and S.. Wilke/J. Helbling d. Emma Neal/Oliva Bieber 6-0, 6-0.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  A challenging schedule awaits the Lady Eagles in the coming week, as all four programs are ranked in the top ten (Div. I Sycamore #3, Mt. Notre Dame t-9, Walnut Hills t-9; and Mariemont, #6 in Div. II.)  Milford will travel to Walnut Hills for the lone conference match of the week.

Monday, 8/22:                  Mt. Notre Dame @ Milford, 4:00 pm

Tuesday, 8/23:                  Milford @ Walnut Hills, 4:00 pm

Wednesday, 8/24:            Sycamore @ Milford, 4:00 pm

Thursday, 8/25:                 Milford @ Mariemont, 4:00 pm

POLL WATCH:  Though Mason held onto the number one spot in week two of the area coaches’ poll, the remaining top five saw some changes.  Sycamore and Ursuline Academy are tied for second, while St. Ursula moved up to fourth.  Turpin of the ECC fell to fifth from last weeks’ fourth spot, and Lakota East (8) and Lakota West (9) fell toward the bottom of the poll from fifth and sixth.  The ECC’s Walnut Hills moved up from ninth to seventh, and Kings dropped out of the top ten.  ECC schools receiving votes include Loveland (17), Kings (4), and Milford, who held steady this week with 2 votes.
