Getting To Know: Franklin Abt

Posted on: March 24, 2021

At the conclusion of this year’s bowling season, Senior, Franklin Abt bowled his last frame for Milford High School. As a four-year bowler, and one of two seniors in the program, Franklin was named the team captain in his final year. Leading the team to a 10-8 record, Franklin showed poise, leadership, and determination during a rather unorthodox season. To cap it all off, in a year that had COVID-19’s fingerprints all over it, he was awarded an honorable mention in this year’s ECC All-Conference honors.

Franklin joined the team as a freshman, and it did not take long for him to get bumped up to the varsity squad full time. He made the leap to being a permanent varsity bowler as a sophomore, and since then he has never looked back. In his junior year, Franklin was able to achieve what he considers his best accomplishment as an Eagle, which was bowling a score of 490 in a two-game series. When you break down the splits from that series, Franklin bowled 246 in the first game and 244 in the second! Also, during his junior year, he bowled his all-time high score of 268! While those scores clearly speak for themselves, scoring highly is not the only thing that mattered to him. Franklin has always been about the team as a whole.

When asked what he will miss most about the team, Franklin replied “I'll probably miss the good times with friends playing a sport that I love the most. Of course, I'll probably join some leagues so that I can keep bowling, but bowling with people my age that took the sport seriously always made my day brighter.” He also went on to say that he does not have a favorite memory from his time on the team, but the constant joking and messing around that they did was always fun.

After completing his fourth and final season at Milford High School, Franklin undoubtably has a lot of knowledge about the game. When asked if he has any advice that he can pass down to future Eagles he replied, “My advice to young bowlers is to stick with it and not be afraid to change things up. Everyone is going to bowl differently and finding what feels right for you is going to take practice. Changing things is always going to feel uncomfortable at first, but the rewards are worth it.”

Franklin also wanted to give a big shout-out to his parents for supporting him throughout his entire bowling journey. They always got him great equipment and hardly ever missed any of his matches, and for that he is very grateful. Franklin has been such a big part of the bowling program during his tenure at Milford High, and he has made the entire Eagle community extremely proud! We wish him nothing but continued success for many years to come! Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!
