Girls Basketball Takes To Road For Non-Conference Action At Seton

SETTING THE SCENE: Seeking an end to its current four-game losing streak, the Milford High School girls basketball team is back on court this week for just a single game when the Eagles visit Seton on Wednesday night. Milford enters the match-up on Cincinnati’s west side with a 2-5 record and trying to get back on track during a two-week break from Eastern Cincinnati Conference play.

 

A LOOK BACK: December 14 at Turpin: Turpin 35, Milford 32

THE SHORT STORY

The Eagles nearly overcame a nine-point deficit early in the fourth quarter before coming up just short at Turpin by a 35-32 score. A basket by Tori Gilman with 47 seconds left brought the Eagles within two but Kaitlyn Workman split a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to put the hosts up three. Gilman’s game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer rimmed just off to end the game.

THE SHORT STORY

Milford ran into the buzzsaw that was Walnut Hills as they dropped a disappointing 61-28 decision in the first of two Battles of the ECC’s Eagles this season. Walnut shot a staggering 60 percent in the first half and 54 percent for the game, while Milford was limited to just eight field goals and 20 percent shooting for the afternoon.

Turpin and Walnut Hills with just one league loss each are hot on the heels of Kings. The ECC schedule will now take a break until after the first of the new year.

 

POLL WATCH: Milford did not receive any votes in this week’s edition of the Division I area coaches’ poll, presented by the Cincinnati Enquirer and released on Dec. 19. Mason continues to be the heavy favorite, earning 13 of the 15 first place votes. Lakota West with one vote, Mount Notre Dame, McAuley with one vote and Ursuline make up the top-five. The ECC is represented by Walnut Hills in a tie for sixth, Kings in eighth, and Turpin in 10th, along with Glen Este and Loveland each receiving votes.
