Girls Bowling Headed To Sectionals
SETTING THE SCENE: The Lady Eagles finished the regular season on a high note with a win over Mt. Notre Dame in the non-league season finale. After an outstanding 16-1 season and an Eastern Cincinnati Conference title, Milford ends the year ranked seventh in the area coaches’ poll. The team now starts a new season, as they look ahead to the postseason beginning with the 2017 Division I Bowling Sectional Tournament set to take place this week.
A LOOK BACK: Milford defeated Mt. Notre Dame on the road to end the regular season. Jessica Haines (372) and Alyna Hook (369) both competed in two games, as did Lauren Shelton with a 289 series. Three Eagles added single games, including MacKenzie Mason (145), Jessica Norman (144) and Megan Cannon with a 110. The six Lady Eagles all helped guide the team to a nice 2301-1977 victory before tournament play begins.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Milford High School girls bowling team begins the postseason this week, at the OHSAA Division I Sectional Tournament which will be held at Crossgate Lanes in Blue Ash. The girls will take the lanes on Wed., Feb. 22.
The girls’ draw for the Crossgate South location includes Glen Este, Turpin, Hamilton, Lakota East, Mother of Mercy, Kings, Lebanon, Amelia, Sycamore, Milford, Middletown, Loveland, Princeton, Lakota West, Mason, Wilmington.
The top seven teams from each draw will advance to the District Tournaments, which will be held the following week on Thurs., March 2 at Beaver-Vu Lanes near Dayton.

INSIDE THE ECC: The 2016-2017 girls bowling team has accomplished a feat no other bowling team in school history has achieved; a conference championship. Milford finished the season 11-1 in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, sharing the title with Glen Este.
The Lady Eagles suffered their lone conference loss early in the season when they split the series with the Trojans. Milford fell in the first match 2297 – 2566. The Eagles, however, battled back in the second meeting of the teams and defeated the Trojans for the first time ever. In a classic, Milford won at home by just 8 pins, 2348-2340, to hang on to a share of first place.
Milford ended the year atop the ECC tied with Glen Este at 11-1. Anderson finished at 8-4, Turpin at 5-7, and Kings at 4-8. Walnut Hills improved to 2-10 to end the year followed by Loveland, who fell to 1-11.
Mason, Haines, Hook, and Norman end the season ranked among the top ten in individual categories of the ECC.

- MacKenzie Mason: high average (8th – 160.9)

POLL WATCH: The final Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll of the 2016-2017 season was released, and Milford ended the year ranked seventh. Glen Este finished the year atop the poll tied with Seton in first, followed by Northwest, Fairfield and Oak Hills. Mercy ends the year ahead of Milford in sixth, and Colerain, Lebanon and Mount Healthy round out the top ten. ECC programs who received votes in the final poll included Anderson (3), Kings (2), and Turpin (1).
