Girls bowling headed to Sectionals on Thursday
A LOOK AHEAD: The Milford High School girls bowling team begins the postseason this week, at the OHSAA Division I Southwest Sectional Tournament which will be held at Crossgate Lanes in Blue Ash. The girls will take to the lanes on Thurs., Feb. 22.
The draw for the ladies at the South Tournament at Crossgate Lanes includes Edgewood, Kings, Lakota West, Lebanon, Little Miami, Loveland, Mason, Middletown, Milford, Mt. Notre Dame, Sycamore, Turpin, Ursuline Academy, West Clermont, Western Brown, and Wilmington. The Eagles (#6) will be joined by two other teams who were ranked in the final area coaches’ poll, Lebanon (#5) and Middletown (#7).
The top teams from each draw will advance to the District Tournament, which will be held the following week on Wed., Feb. 28 at Beaver-Vu Lanes near Dayton.

2017 POSTSEASON RESULTS: The Lady Eagles were the Sectional Tournament runners-up at the OHSAA Division I Bowling Sectional Tournament in 2017. They missed winning it all by a mere sixteen total pins behind conference rival, the Glen Este Trojans.
The girls earned a second place finish out of sixteen teams, and were led by Jessica Haines with a three game series 577. MacKenzie Mason rolled a 348 two game series, while Jessica Norman (172) contributed to the team’s advancement.
The girls bowling team advanced to the Division I OHSAA District Tournament but were unable to qualify for the State Tournament. Jessica Haines led the Eagles, placing 28th in the final standings. Bowling in all three games, Haines averaged a 175.3 and a high series of 526, followed MacKenzie Mason’s three game series of 439. Jessica Norman completed a two game series of 283.
The Eagles ended the season at the District Tournament in 12th place of 24 teams who participated, an improvement from the prior season’s 20th place finish.
INSIDE THE ECC: With a perfect 12-0 record in the ECC, Milford has secured their second ECC championship. With a few conference matches yet to play, West Clermont follows at 8-3 with Walnut Hills close behind at 8-4. Turpin (6-6) and Anderson (4-8), Loveland (2-9) and Kings (1-11) round out the ECC standings. Milford’s team average rose yet again to 816.1, increasing their lead over West Clermont’s 758.5.
As of 2/18, five of the Lady Eagles are among the individual leaders within the top ten of the ECC, with Jessica Haines leading the league for overall average and MacKenzie Mason leading the league in high game and high series:
Megan Cannon: series high (t-10th – 391)
Jessica Haines: overall average (1st – 189.1); high game (2nd – 248); series high (2nd – 448)
Reaghan Kaylor: high game (7th – 233); series high (8th – 406)
MacKenzie Mason: overall average (7th – 172.1); high game (1st – 289); series high (1st – 488)
Jessica Norman: overall average (9th – 160.7); high game (4th – 241); series high (4th – 431)

FINAL POLL WATCH: The final area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer was released on Feb. 12, and Milford’s girls bowling team will end the year in sixth, where they have resided most of the season. Fairfield jumps from third to the top of the poll, followed by Northwest. Seton, previously first, falls to third followed by Mercy and Lebanon. Milford, Middletown, McAuley, Oak Hills and Colerain round out the final top ten. West Clermont (11), Loveland (4), Anderson (2), Turpin (1) and Walnut Hills (1) each received votes in the final poll.
