Girls Cross Country At OHSAA Districts This Weekend

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: The 2018 OHSAA Southwest District Championships will take place on Sat., Oct. 20 at Voice of America Park in West Chester.  In 2017, Milford finished 12th of 14 teams.  Current members who competed at the 2017 districts include Olivia Loeffler (20:53.5, 39th), Emma Beck (22:10.8, 66th), Hailey Steiner (22:13.3, 67th), Gretchen Feldkamp (22:41.2, 72nd) and Brooke Stansell (23:51.5, 82nd).                                         

The Lady Eagles will compete in Girls Race 1 at 10:00 am.  In addition to Milford, teams in Race 1 include Harrison, Lakota West, Little Miami, Mason, Mercy-McAuley, Oak Hills, Seton, St. Ursula, Turpin, Ursuline, Western Brown, and Winton Woods.

The top 5 teams and the top 20 individuals will qualify to Regionals the following week

Location: Voice of America Metro Park - 7850 VOA Park Dr., West Chester OH 45069

Admission: $6.00 for all spectators (including seniors/school aged kids, and athletes/coaches not included on pass list).

 

A LOOK BACK:  Among a strong field of cross country athletes that includes four programs in the top ten of the area coaches’ poll, Milford finished sixth in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship meet.  Freshman Emmy Sager led the Lady Eagles, crossing the finish line in 19:40 in 12th place, followed by Olivia Loeffler who finished in 21st in 20:28, a new personal best. Emily Rodeffer (a new best time of 22:02, 38th) and Emma Beck (22:09, 39th) finished together, followed by Gretchen Feldkamp (22:37, 43rd), Brooklyn George (22:53, 46th), and Kat Perez (23:35, 49th). 

Sam Bush of Turpin won the individual championship with a time of 17:51, followed by West Clermont’s Maddie Walker (18:05) and Brook Garter of Kings (19:07).  Turpin claimed the ECC title followed by Kings, Loveland, Walnut Hills, Anderson, West Clermont and Milford.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  There were minor adjustments to the top third of the ECC standings following the ECC Championships.  Individual standings as of October 16:  Emmy Sager (11th), Olivia Loeffler (28th), Emma Beck (31st), Emily Rodeffer (39th), Brooke Stansell (56th), Gretchen Feldkamp (62nd), Sam Conrad (t-63rd), Claire Perrin (t-63rd), Kat Perez (66th), Hailey Steiner (68th), and Brooklyn George (71st).

  

POLL WATCH:  The final area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer has been released, and Mason has moved to the top for the first time in over a month.  Lakota East, the ECC’s Turpin and Kings, and Ursuline Academy will end the year in the top five.  Loveland, Lebanon, Sycamore, Walnut Hills and St. Ursula round out the final top ten. Anderson (2) and West Clermont received votes in the final poll, which can be found HERE.
