Girls Cross Country Taking New Career Bests To Princeton Invite

SETTING THE SCENE:   Milford’s girls cross country team is gaining momentum and setting new personal records as they ready for their next meet, the Princeton Invitational.  Last weekend the squad headed to the Xavier Invitational to run with a field of 348 runners from seventeen teams.   Four Eagles set new personal bests on a cool and comfortable morning. 

 

A LOOK BACK:  The girls cross country team headed to Kingswood Park in Mason on a perfect morning to race for the Xavier Invitational.  Olivia Loeffler led the Eagles and finished 20th at 20.55, a new personal best.  Emma Beck followed just one spot behind Loeffler, and finished in 21st place.  Beck’s 20.59 was also a new high school career record.  Cymone Horton crossed the finish in 21.24, good for 33rd, while Andrea Armstrong lowered her personal best to 21.37 and finished in 37th place.  Marisa Detore’s new career best of 21.54 led her to 44th place.  Katherine Perez finished in 22.45, and Audrey Moore in 23.19.

Milford finished 6th of 17 teams.  The race was won by Maddie Walker of Amelia with an amazing time of 18.06.  The ECC’s Turpin won the team title, followed by Wyoming and Mariemont.  Click here for complete results from the Xavier Invite.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford will next run at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, September 10th.  The Princeton Invite will be held at Landmark Christian Church.

INSIDE THE ECC:  Olivia Loeffler leads the Eagles, ranked 10th in the ECC at 20.55, a new personal best from the Xavier Invite.  Emma Beck follows just one spot behind at 11th, as her 20.59 was also a new personal record.  A number of other Eagles rank in the top fifty, including Cymone Horton (17th) and Andrea Armstrong (19th) who lowered her personal best to 21.37 this week.   Marisa Detore, who set new career best of 21.54, moved up to 24th and Katherine Perez jumped to t-33 from 48th.  Audrey Moore (t-39th) and Trista Whitt (48th) round out the Eagles in the top fifty in the ECC standings.

 

POLL WATCH:  There were some changes in week two of the area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer, but Mason continued to hold the lead.  Two ECC schools continue to flip-flop in the two and three spots as this week Turpin moved back to second, and Kings fell to third.   Lakota West jumped two spots to fourth, and St. Ursula fell to fifth; Loveland of the ECC entered the poll at tenth.  Milford entered the poll this week with four votes, and is joined by conference member Anderson with thirteen votes.
