Posted on: August 15, 2016

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School girls golf program will kick off its quest for its fourth Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship in the last five years when the Eagles tee off league play for the first time in 2016. Following a pair of pre-conference tournaments last week, the Eagles will travel to Turpin, before hosting Loveland later this week. The latter match-up will feature the Eagles against the squad that broke the school’s three-year stranglehold on the league crown last fall.

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Turpin, Reeves Golf Course, 10 a.m.
    • 2016 Dual Record: 0-0
    • Top Player: Elizabeth Chamberlain (44.5 average)
  • Wednesday, Aug. 17 vs. Loveland, Deer Track Golf Course, 3:30 p.m.
    • 2016 Dual Record: 1-1
    • Top Player: Alejandra Bonet (44.8 average)

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 8 at Sycamore Invitational: The Eagles opened the 2016 season taking on a tough 19-team field at Sycamore’s Invitational, held Aug. 8 at Walden Ponds with a 16th place finish and a team score of 411. Junior Casey Broxterman was the Eagles’ leading scorer in the 18-hole event with a score of 93.

Aug. 11 at ECC Preseason Tournament: At the team’s second outing of the fall campaign, the Eagles shaved over 20 shots off their first day score, finishing second with a team total of 389. Casey Broxterman was again the Eagles’ 18-hole leader, this time carding a 90. Medalist honors went to Loveland’s Alejandra Bonet as she scored an 83 to lead the Tigers to the team title.

POLL WATCH: The first released Cincinnati Enquirer Division I coaches’ roll released on Aug. 15 shows the Eagles tied for 9th among the area’s top squads. Sycamore with 8 of 10 first place votes is the heavy favorite of the voting coaches with Ursuline and Mason just behind, each with one top tally. McAuley and Lakota West round out the top-five. The ECC is also represented by Loveland in eighth, along with Anderson, Kings and Walnut Hills all in the others receiving votes section. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
