Girls Golf Travels To Kings For Early ECC Battle

SETTING THE SCENE: The squads that finished 1-2 in last week’s Eastern Cincinnati Conference Preseason Tournament will square off on Tuesday when Milford travels to the Grizzly Course at Mason Golf Center to take on Kings. Action gets underway at 4:15 p.m. The Eagles are off to a solid start with the opening week of play being highlighted by a win over Loveland and a runner-up finish at the ECC preview. Junior Megan Loux has led the Eagles thus far with a 45.4 average.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 14 vs. at Kings, Grizzly Course at Mason Golf Center, 4:15 p.m.
    • 2018 Dual Record: 0-1
    • Top Player: Kayla Matson & Leah Swayne (41.3 average)

 

A LOOK BACK: August 6 vs. Loveland: The Eagles got the season off to a great start, while earning early bragging rights over rival Loveland, as they knocked off the Tigers 193-203. Sisters Megan, a junior, and Abi, a freshman, shared match medalist honors, each carding a round of 45.

 

August 7 at Sycamore Invitational: Taking on a tough field of competitors, the Eagles placed 12th in the 19-team Sycamore Invitational at Walden Ponds Golf Course. For the second straight day, Megan Loux topped the Eagles, this timing shooting an 18-hole score of 97.

 

August 9 at ECC Preseason Tournament: The Eagles showed they will be a force in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference this fall as they finished a strong second at the league’s preseason tournament. With four players finishing in the top-10, Milford finished the day with a team score of 351, just 10 shots behind Kings. Playing on her birthday, junior Megan Loux finished just three shots off the winning pace, tying for third with an 85. Sophomore Alexis Crowell finished sixth with a score of 88, just one stroke better than teammates Abi Loux and Bre Severns.

 

POLL WATCH: Milford’s solid start to the season has drawn the Eagles to the top of other teams receiving votes in the weekly Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll, released on Aug. 13. Lakota East is this week’s top-ranked squad on the strength of five first place votes, with Mason (two votes) and Ursuline (three votes) sharing second. Sycamore and Mercy McAuley complete the top-five. The ECC is represented by Kings in seventh and Loveland in ninth, with Turpin joining the Eagles in others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
