Girls Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With Trio Of Contests

 

SETTING THE SCENE: A busy week faces the Milford High School girls lacrosse team as the Eagles wrap up the 2018 regular season with three games. The Eagles enter the final week holding a record of 5-9, while still chasing their first Eastern Cincinnati Conference victory of the campaign. The week starts with two games in two nights, the first at Miamisburg on Monday, followed one night later by a home game against rival Loveland. The week, and regular season, conclude on Thursday with a home contest against Cincinnati Country Day.

TOURNEY TALK: The OHSAA released the OHSAA Tournament brackets on Sunday, May 6 and the Eagles will open Division I, Region 4 action on Monday, May 14 at Sycamore. Game time will be announced soon. Click here for the tournament brackets.

 

A LOOK BACK: May 1 vs. Kings: Despite seven goals from freshman Sarah Cardell, Milford fell by a 15-10 score to Kings in Eastern Cincinnati Conference action. Cardell added five draw controls in the defeat, while Sydney Hogan scored twice and Ellen Victory added a goal and an assist.

 

May 2 vs. Clark Montessori: Senior Night proved to be a happy occasion for the Eagles as they rolled past Clark Montessori by a 22-8 score, marking a program-best in goals scored for a single game. Milford’s lone senior, Ashley Costa, got in the scoring act as she scored her first two goals of the season, while adding an assist on another. Sarah Cardell led six players who scored multiple goals as she finished with five. Ellen Victory scored three goals and Sarah Ehrman, Sydney Hogan and Josi Jennings scored twice each. Angel Dominguez led Milford with 12 draw controls and scored a goal, as did Megan LaFrance, Alexis Montalvo, Grace Powers, Casey Roeder and Alexa Rouse.

POLL WATCH: Milford did not receive any votes in the weekly area all divisions coaches’ poll, sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer and released on April 30. Mount Notre Dame is the unanimous No. 1 team this week, with all 12 first place votes that were cast. Mariemont, a tie between Indian Hill and the ECC’s Loveland, along with Mason complete the top-five. The ECC is also represented by Anderson in eighth with Kings also receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.

 

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLE: Class of 2018 member Ashley Costa has announced her intention to continue her athletic and academic careers on the collegiate level. Costa has committed to Cincinnati’s Mount St. Joseph University where she will compete in both lacrosse and soccer.
