Girls Lacrosse Earns Four All-Conference Awards

Posted on: May 25, 2022

On the heels of the most successful season in Milford girls lacrosse history, the Eagles are represented by four players on the 2022 All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference teams. A pair of Milford student-athletes, juniors Zara Brown and Emma Schaefer headline the list as first team selections. Classmates Maria Rust (second team) and Payton Gilliland (honorable mention) were Milford’s other honorees.

Schaefer became one of the league’s top goalies this spring, ranking second with 168 saves and posting 10 victories. A second team All-ECC choice last year, Schaefer even got the opportunity to play in the field one game this year, recording her first career goal.

Brown had a great campaign, leading the ECC in both assists (39) and ground balls (47). In securing her first-ever all-conference accolade, Brown also finished third on the Eagles with 20 goals scored.

Rust came on strong in the second half of the season, finishing with 53 goals, the fifth-most among all ECC players this year. In a two-game stretch, she scored a staggering 17 goals in wins over McNicholas and Little Miami.

Gilliland made her name on defense, ranking among the top-10 in the league in caused turnovers (19) and interceptions (9). She also finished third on the Eagles with 25 groundballs collected.

The 2022 season concluded with Milford recording its first-ever winning season, finishing with a 10-9 mark. The Eagles also picked up the first OHSAA Tournament win in program history this year.
