Girls Lacrosse To Host Annual Give Back Game Tuesday

Posted on: April 3, 2022

Annually, Milford Girls Lacrosse will designate one of their games as a give back game. The annual give back game focuses on a need within Miford’s community and helps raise awareness, funds or needed items for an organization selected by our seniors at the start of the season.

On Tuesday, April 5th at their games against Anderson High School, Milford High School Girls’ Lacrosse will be honoring Junior Sophie Tarter's grandmother, Nancy Tarter, who is in need of a kidney due to damage done to both of her kidneys by the Covid-19 virus. The team will be wearing hot pink (Nancy's favorite color) adorned with a lacrosse stick made out of kidney shapes to get the word out about Nancy's need to the community.

Nancy will be needing a kidney transplant in the very near future in order to survive. Nancy contracted Covid-19 in the winter of 2021 and the virus did irreparable damage to her kidneys. In the spring of 2021 she was given a 2-3 year survival rate if she did not receive a transplant. Nancy needs a living donor for two reasons: (1) the wait for a deceased donor transplant is 5+ years and (2) Nancy is a difficult match due to a blood antigen issue; she may never find a deceased donor match.

Here are some facts about kidney donation:
We are born with an extra kidney - you only need one to live a full and healthy life. Some of us even have three!
The majority of donor surgeries are laparoscopic procedures with small incisions and recuperation is generally two weeks for some and six weeks for the very active.

All medical expenses are paid by the recipient's insurance.

Living kidney donors do not have to be related to the recipient to be a match. One in four donors is not biologically related to the recipient. ***It is important to note that you don't need to be an exact match to help Nancy. What Nancy needs most is someone to donate to the national kidney pool which will open up access to more potential donors that will be a match.

Anyone interested in helping Nancy should contact Transplant Coordinators, Tricia Monson at 513-585-1440 or Breanna Bronson at 513-585-1427. They are both great resources for anyone seeking information on the process.

That evening Milford Girls Lacrosse will also be raising awareness of the importance of organ donation and raising funds for Donate Life Ohio. We invite you to attend the games against the Anderson Raptors, on Tuesday April 5th at 5:30 (JV) and 7:00 pm (Varsity). The team is asking all spectators to wear pink to show support to Nancy and her family.
