Girls Soccer Hosts Anderson Tuesday In Week’s Lone Contest

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School girls soccer team will square off with one of its oldest rivals when they host Anderson on Tuesday night. The Eagles are coming off of a pair of shutout victories last week, outscoring the opponents 9-0 to improve to 4-5-4 on the season. The match-up between the Eagles and Redskins will mark the 47th all-time meeting between the schools.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 25 at Withrow: Five different players scored goals and four others had assists as Milford stormed by Withrow by a 6-0 score. Senior Taylor Cassidy, the Eagles starter in goal all season, got the opportunity to play in the field and responded with her first two career goals. Other goal scorers for the Eagles included Kaitlyn Geis, Tori Kittrell, Zoey McAninch and Marley Smith. Freshman Landen Gooley notched a pair of assists, while Madison Chitwood, Hayden Moehring and Ellie Redrow had one each. With Cassidy in the field, sophomore Kylie Clifton earned the start in goal and earned her first career shutout.

 

Sept. 29 vs. Lebanon: Milford picked up its second shutout in as many matches, blanking Lebanon by a 3-0 score. Senior keeper Taylor Cassidy earned the clean sheet in goal, picking up six saves. Sophomore Beth Cook scored her first goal and assisted on another, while Madison Chitwood and Ali Claus each found the back of the net. Chloe Lorenz and Catrionna Manning also picked up assists in the win.

POLL WATCH: A pair of shutout victories last week pushed Milford into 10th place in the Oct. 1 edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll. Following a shutout of No. 3 Mason last week, Loveland is once again the heavy favorite of the voting coaches, being awarded 13 of the 19 first place votes cast. Fairfield earned five top nods and is second, with third-place Mason taking the final No. 1. Anderson from the ECC and Mercy McAuley complete the top-five. Representing the ECC in others receiving votes are Turpin, Walnut Hills and Kings. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
