Girls Soccer Hosts Edgewood Tuesday Night To Kick Off Tournament Play

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School girls soccer team will kick off tournament play as the No. 12 seed when the Eagles host Edgewood on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Eagles have been at their best in the past few weeks, having won five consecutive matches to finish the regular season at 7-5-4. The team also found success in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference with a 4-1-2 record to finish fourth in the final rundown and secure the team’s best league record since 2014. Edgewood comes into the tournament as the No. 28 seed for the tournament.


THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s OHSAA Tournament opponent:

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 9 at Walnut Hills: Senior Ali Kirk had a hand in a pair of goals as Milford wrapped up the conference portion of this season’s schedule with a 2-1 win over Walnut Hills. Kirk scored a goal and assisted on a second by sophomore Ellie Redrow in helping the Eagles finish 4-1-2 in the ECC, the squad’s best league mark since 2014.


Oct. 13 vs. Wyoming: Senior goalie Taylor Cassidy picked up her third shutout of the season and classmate Ali Kirk scored for the second straight match, helping Milford to a 2-0 win over Wyoming. The meeting was the first ever on the pitch between the schools. For Kirk, it was her team-leading sixth goal of the year. Sophomore Beth Cook scored her second goal of the year, while Tori Kittrell picked up an assist. Between the pipes, Cassidy had five saves.


TOURNEY TALK: The Eagles were awarded the No. 12 seed in the OHSAA Sectional Tournament and will host No. 28 Edgewood on Tuesday, Oct. 16 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Click here for Milford’s tournament bracket.

POLL WATCH: The Eagles finished just outside the top-10 in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I coaches’ poll. Loveland was named the poll champions, by just a single point over Fairfield. The Tigers earned eight first place votes to six for the Indians. Tenth-place St. Ursula earned the final No. 1 vote. The rest of the final top-five includes Mason, Mount Notre Dame and Mercy McAuley. The ECC is also represented by Anderson in sixth, with Turpin joining Milford among others receiving votes.
