Girls Soccer Hosts Middletown In OHSAA Tourney Opener Monday

SETTING THE SCENE: Having closed the regular season winners of two of its last three matches, the Milford High School girls soccer team is set to open OHSAA Tournament play on Monday night when the Eagles host Middletown at 7 p.m. Milford’s efforts this fall earned them the No. 16 seed in the sectional tournament as they finished with a 5-7-4 regular season mark. The Middies are seeded 29th and finished the year 1-13-2. The winner of Monday’s match will advance to take on the winner of No. 14 Anderson and No. 19 Harrison on Thursday evening.

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 10 at Loveland: The Eagles closed the regular season facing a steep challenge in the No. 1 team in Ohio in rival Loveland. Milford played the Tigers tough before ultimately falling by a 2-0 score. The Eagles finished the 2017 season tied for fourth in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings with West Clermont, each a 3-2-2 in league play.

POLL WATCH: The Eagles received a single vote in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I coaches’ poll of the season. Loveland of the ECC was crowned the regular season poll champion with 10 of the 11 first place votes that were cast. Mason, St. Ursula, Fairfield and Sycamore complete the top-five, with the Aviators earning the 11th first place vote. The ECC was also represented by Turpin in eighth, with Anderson and Withrow joining the Eagles in others earning votes.
