Girls Soccer Prepares For Week of Challenging Foes

SETTING THE SCENE: Seeking its first win of the 2017 season, the Milford High School girls soccer team is set to take on two of the area’s top teams when its returns to action this week. The Eagles stand at 0-2-1 after one week of play and are led by senior Bryn Rolfsen with a team-leading two goals. This week’s slate starts with the Eastern Cincinnati Conference opener against Turpin on Thursday night, before the renewing of a long rivalry with Mason in a Saturday afternoon matinee.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Thursday, Aug. 29 vs. Turpin, 7:00 p.m.
    • 2017 Record: 3-0-0, 0-0-0 ECC (3rd Division I area coaches’ preseason poll)
    • Top Scorer: Junior Cara Hauserman (3 G, 0 A, 6 pts.)
    • Last Meeting: 2016; Milford 0, Turpin 0

  • Saturday, Sept. 2 at Mason, 12:00 p.m.

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 18 at Lebanon: Milford opened the season with a positive result against a quality opponent, picking up a 1-1 tie on the road at Lebanon. Ali Claus wasted no time getting into the scoring column to start her sophomore year, netting the Eagles’ lone goal.

 

Aug. 21 vs. Sycamore: The Eagles’ first home game of the new season ended in heartbreak as visiting Sycamore snapped a 2-2 tie with the game-winning goal with just 1:21 remaining to steal a win from Milford. Senior Bryn Rolfsen scored both of Milford’s goals and benefited from assists from senior Holly Barlage and sophomore Tori Kittrell.

 

Aug. 26 at Springboro: Battling the reigning state runner-ups from Springboro, the Eagles dropped a 5-0 decision to the Panthers.

POLL WATCH: Milford received a single vote in the Aug. 28 edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll. Of the 21 head coaches casting ballots this week, ECC power Loveland appears as the No. 1 team on 17. Mason is second with one top vote, holding a slim edge over ECC member Turpin who picked up the other three No. 1 nods. Mount Notre Dame and St. Ursula round out the top-five. Other ECC teams joining the Eagles in the others receiving votes section include West Clermont, Walnut Hills, Anderson and Kings.
