Girls Soccer Riding Momentum Into Two-Match Week Starting Tuesday Against Turpin

SETTING THE SCENE: After a slow start, the Milford High School girls soccer team have a pair of wins and ties against two of Cincinnati’s best in its last four matches. The Eagles will be out to turn that momentum into wins this week in matches against Turpin and Oak Hills. Milford is 2-3-4 on the year, but played Loveland and Indian Hill, ranked No. 1 in the city in Divisions I and II respectively last week. This week features an important Eastern Cincinnati Conference battle with current league leader Turpin as well as a non-conference trip to Oak Hills.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 11 at Loveland: Behind two goals from junior Ali Claus, Milford nearly knocked off one of the nation’s best, settling for a 2-2 tie with Loveland. The Eagles actually led 2-1 in the second half, before Loveland, ranked third in the USA Today national poll, tied it late. Senior Ali Kirk and sophomore Ellie Redrow assisted on Claus’ goals, as Milford snapped a three-year losing streak to its Miami Township rival.

 

Sept. 15 at Indian Hill: Another day, another tie against one of the city’s best as the Eagles played Indian Hill, ranked No. 1 in Division II, to a 1-1 tie. Junior Catrionna Manning scored her team-best third goal of the season off of an assist from classmate Kaitlyn Geis.

POLL WATCH: Impressive ties against Loveland and Indian Hill pushed Milford further up the others receiving votes list of this week’s Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll, just three points out of 10th. No. 1 Loveland No. 2 Fairfield each earned six first place votes, with third place Mason and seventh place Hamilton each earning one. Mount Notre Dame and a tie between the ECC’s Anderson and Sycamore complete the top-five. League mates Turpin and West Clermont join the Eagles among others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
