Girls Soccer Seeks First Win In Week Against Kings, Mason

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School girls soccer team will look to shake off an 0-2-1 start to the season when the Eagles return to the pitch this week for a pair of match-ups. First up, the squad will open up another season of Eastern Cincinnati Conference action when it travels to Kings on Tuesday. On Saturday, its back home to Charity J. Lucas Stadium for a high Noon kickoff against one of the top teams in the area again this year, Mason.

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 17 vs. Springboro: The Eagles ran into a talented Springboro squad that won 17 matches last season in their season opener, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Panthers. Senior Ali Kirk netted her first goal of the new year in the setback.

 

Aug. 21 at Sycamore: Another talented squad proved to be too much for Milford as the Eagles fell to Sycamore by a 5-0 score.

 

Aug. 23 at Little Miami: Milford scored its first positive result of the campaign, playing Little Miami to 1-1 tie. Freshman Lyric Birkley scored her first career goal, converting off an assist from fellow freshman Landen Gooley.

POLL WATCH: After a tough start to the campaign, the Eagles did not receive any votes in this week’s Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Loveland holds the top spot again this week, but by just a single point over Fairfield. The Tigers received nine first place votes to six for the second place Indians. Seventh-place Oak Hills received the other No. 1 nod. The top-five is also made up of Mason, St. Ursula and Mount Notre Dame. The rankings also find the ECC represented by Anderson in eighth and Turpin among others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
