Girls Soccer Seeks More Wins As Season Reaches Late Stages

SETTING THE SCENE: With just three regular season contests remaining, the Milford High School girls soccer team will try to improve its position in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings, while also picking up a quality non-conference victory this week. The Eagles enter this week with a 3-6-4 overall record, but are currently tied for third in the league rundown at 2-1-2. Milford will look for a Tuesday night ECC score at home against Kings, before traveling to Ursuline Academy on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, Milford will learn its OHSAA Tournament fate as the tournament brackets are unveiled.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 26 at West Clermont: Milford’s first-ever match up against new ECC member West Clermont ended in favor of the Wolves as they notched a 4-3 victory over the Eagles. Sophomore Ali Claus (goal, assist) and senior Bryn Rolfsen (two assists) each had a hand in two of the goals, while Holly Barlage scored the first goal of her senior campaign and junior Ali Kirk got goal number five.

 

Sept. 30 vs. Lakota West: The Eagles got a positive result against a quality team, as they played Lakota West to a 1-1 tie inside Charity J. Lucas Stadium. Junior Ali Kirk scored her team-leading sixth goal of 2017 off an assist from senior Emma Netzel.

POLL WATCH: The Eagles are back among other teams receiving votes in the Oct. 2 edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll. Loveland continues to be the overwhelming favorite with 16 of the 17 first place votes, with 10th place Lakota East taking the other top nod. Mason, St. Ursula, Fairfield and Sycamore round out the top-five. Other ECC teams recognized by the coaches include Turpin in seventh, with West Clermont, Anderson and Withrow joining the Eagles in others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
