Girls Soccer Set For Battles With West Clermont, Lakota West

SETTING THE SCENE: Looking to break into the win column, the Milford High School girls soccer team has a pair of contests on its docket for this week as the Eagles try to improve on an 0-3-2 start to the season. The squad appears to be on the verge of scoring a victory with ties in two of the last three matches they’ve played. The week ahead begins on Tuesday night against the newest member of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, West Clermont. Saturday features a non-conference road match at Lakota West.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 4 vs. West Clermont, 7:00 p.m.
    • 2018 Record: 3-2-0, 1-0-0 ECC (NR Division I area coaches’ weekly poll)
    • Top Scorer: Senior Megan DeWald (2 G, 2 A, 6 pts.)
    • Last Meeting: 2017; West Clermont 4, Milford 3
    • Series History: West Clermont leads 1-0-0
  • Saturday, Sept. 8 at Lakota West, 7:00 p.m.
    • 2018 Record: 1-2-0, 0-0-0 GMC (RV Division I area coaches’ weekly poll)
    • Top Scorer: Sophomore Savannah Grubbs (2 G, 1 A, 5 pts.)

    • Series History: Lakota West leads 14-5-3

 

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 28 at Kings: The Eagles recorded their second consecutive positive result, playing Kings to a 1-1 tie. Junior Trina Manning scored her first goal of the year for Milford.

 

Sept. 1 vs. Mason: Playing one of the area’s top teams in third-ranked Mason, Milford dropped a 3-0 decision to the Comets.

POLL WATCH: The Eagles did not receive any votes in the Sept. 4 Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Loveland holds the top spot again this week, with 11 of the 19 first place votes that were cast this week. Fairfield earned seven top votes to take second with Mason, Sycamore and Mount Notre Dame (one first place vote) completing the top-five. The ECC is led by Anderson in sixth, along with Turpin and West Clermont in others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
