Girls Soccer Set For Pair Of Contests This Week Beginning Tuesday At Anderson

SETTING THE SCENE: Looking to build off its first victory of the 2017 season last week, the Milford High School girls soccer team has a busy week ahead with a pair of match-ups against high scoring teams that have enjoyed success so far this season. The Eagles got in the win column in their most recent outing, scoring with 16 minutes to go to grab a 3-2 win at Walnut Hills. This week begins for Milford (1-3-2, 1-0-1 ECC) with a trip to Anderson, one of the league’s best teams, before returning to Charity J. Lucas Stadium for a Saturday matinee against an unbeaten Indian Hill squad.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 5 at Walnut Hills: Milford stretched its unbeaten streak over Walnut Hills to 11 with a 3-2 win in the annual Eastern Cincinnati Conference Battle of the Eagles. MHS started quick, jumping to an early 2-0 before Walnut battled back to knot the game before the half. Milford snatched the lead for good with 16 minutes remaining on the game’s final goal. Bryn Rolfsen tallied her second two-goal game of the season, while Ali Claus scored once and assisted on one of Rolfsen’s markers. Holly Barlage also had an assist in the win.

POLL WATCH: Coming off its big win over Walnut Hills, Milford is back among several teams also receiving votes, but outside the top-10 in the Sept. 11 Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ Division I poll. After a 5-0 win over No. 2 Mason, ECC powerhouse Loveland is easily the No. 1 ranked squad with 16 of the 17 first place votes cast. The Comets remain second with the other top vote, with Ursuline Academy, Sycamore and Turpin of the ECC completing the top-10. Other ECC teams receiving votes include Anderson and Walnut Hills.
