Girls Tennis Looks For ECC Win At Anderson

SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s girls tennis team has just one match on the schedule for the week ahead.  As the team gains experience and confidence, date at Anderson may get the Lady Eagles a notch in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference win column. Milford lost to Loveland and Turpin last week, both of whom are now undefeated in the conference.

                      

THE UPCOMING DOCKET:  The Lady Eagles have a short week just about halfway through the regular season.  Milford will have an opportunity to collect their first conference win when they travel to Anderson (0-2 ECC).

A LOOK BACK:

August 24 at Seton: Seton 4, Milford 1

Milford’s match with Seton, previously postponed due to weather, was rescheduled for Aug. 24.  Elise Ostrander nearly swept Seton’s Dattilo at first singles; taking the match 6-0, 6-1.  The second singles match for Emme Thomas was very competitive though Tepe of Seton won 7-5, 4-6.  Jackie Hooper fell 2-6, 0-3 to Gillis at third singles.  Emma Neal-Tiffany Lau, at first doubles, lost to Rilfer-Bendel 2-6, 4-6, while Seton’s Cappel-Davitt defeated Milford’s Lauren Hickey-Sam Miller pair at second doubles, 3-6, 4-6.

August 28 at Milford: #7 Loveland 5, Milford 0

Ostrander nearly earned the victory at first singles, falling to Beller 7-5, 0-6, 3-10.  Hooper, playing second singles, fell to Svitkovic 1-6, 1-6, while Thomas lost 1-6, 2-6 to Geers.  Emma Neal-Sam Miller lost 0-6, 0-6 to Hytree-Nowiski at first doubles, while Liv Bailey-Tiffany Lau fell in second doubles to Hopkinson-Partin 1-6, 3-6.

August 29 at Milford: St. Ursula B

Milford was scheduled to host St. Ursula;  the score and stats from will be posted when available.

August 30 at Turpin: #3 Turpin 5, Milford 0

Perennial favorite Turpin, ranked #3 last week in the area coaches’ poll, claimed the match from Milford.  Turpin’s Fisher, the conference player of the year for the past three consecutive seasons, defeated Ostrander 6-0, 6-0.  Allen of Turpin defeated Milford’s Hooper 6-1, 6-1 at second singles, while Thomas lost 2-6, 0-6 to Turpin’s Webber at third singles.  First doubles duo Miller-Neal lost to Reynolds-Hogan 0-6, 1-6, and at second doubles Turpin’s Pierce-Hayas won over Liv Bailey-Ashley Stamper 6-1, 6-0.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  Loveland and Turpin, last year’s conference champion, are atop the conference standings at 3-0.  Walnut Hills follows at 3-1 while Kings is 1-2.  West Clermont and Anderson (0-2) and Milford (0-3) all await their first conference victory. 

 

POLL WATCH:  The latest area coaches’ poll has been released, and Mason, Ursuline Academy and the ECC’s Turpin remain the top three teams.  Sycamore rose to fourth and Mt. Notre Dame moved up to sixth while St. Ursula feel to fifth.  Loveland held at seventh, and Walnut Hills fell from eighth to ninth. Kings (6) was the only ECC school to receive votes.
