Girls tennis season ends at sectionals

Posted on: October 9, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  The weather on Thurs., Oct. 5 presented challenges for the Eagles on the first day of the Division I Sectional Tournament, as indoor facilities had to be found and schedules revised on short notice.  After arriving at the Mason Tennis Complex, the Eagles were moved to various indoor courts in Cincinnati and as far away as Western Hills.  The new locations forced the Lady Eagles to travel to separate clubs and in many cases, wait long periods of time prior to playing.

SECTIONAL RESULTS:   Singles player Emme Thomas faced Pradhanya Sundar of Walnut Hills, who advanced after a win over Maeghan Gostel of Kings.  Thomas nearly advanced, but fell to Sundar 6-4, 6-3.  Jackie Hooper opened tournament play by facing Loveland’s Jensen Knecht. Knecht advanced by defeating Hooper 6-1, 6-2.

Milford’s Leah Breuer fell 6-0, 6-1 to fellow ECC member Alex Hytree of Loveland in the first round.  Sydney Daniels/Emma Neal were unable to advance after a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Claire Holtmeier/Grace Silverberg of Lakota East.  The #4 seed pair of Gracie Estes/Carolyn Haney of Ursuline Academy defeated Milford’s Olivia Bailey/Sam Miller 6-0, 6-0.
