Girls Tennis Sweeps Princeton; Heads to GCTCA Tournament

UPDATED:  The Lady Eagles will also head to the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association’s Coaches Classic.  Milford will be competing in Flight F, along with Edgewood, Monroe, Harrison, Middletown and Ross.

Doubles:  Middletown High School

The tournament continues on Saturday, September 22nd.

 

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s tennis team picked up their first team victory of the season with a win over Princeton.  The week ahead will begin with the Lady Eagles at West Clermont for the final Eastern Cincinnati Conference challenge, followed by the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association’s Coaches Classic tournament.                    

                

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: Milford’s final ECC match awaits and the squad will look for the win over West Clermont.  The Lady Eagles will also head to the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association’s Coaches Classic; the seed meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18 to establish Flight determinations and locations for singles and doubles competitions.  Check back for updates to the schedule later in the week.

A LOOK BACK:

September 10 at Milford: Milford 5, Princeton 0

Milford collected their first team win of the season with a sweep of Princeton.  Elise Ostrander defeated her Princeton opponent with little difficulty at first singles 6-1, 6-1.  Jackie Hooper had to fight for a 7-5 win in the first and went on to a 6-0 set to win at second singles, and Sam Miller won easily at third singles, 6-1, 6-1.  Emma Neal and Emme Thomas took the first doubles match by scores of 6-1, 6-1, and Ashley Stamper and Olivia Bailey won 6-2, 6-2 at second doubles.

September 11 at Milford: Walnut Hills 5, Milford 0

The Eagles of Walnut Hills, ranked #9 in the area coaches’ poll, proved their ranking with a victory over the Eagles of Milford.  At first singles, Ostrander fell 4-6, 2-6, while Thomas lost at second singles 1-6, 3-6 and Miller was defeated at third singles 0-6, 0-6.  Teaming at first doubles, Hooper-Stamper fell 0-6, 2-6, and Neal-Bailey lost 2-6, 3-6 at second doubles.

September 12 at Madeira:  Madeira 4, Milford 1

The Eagles won a number of games in a spirited loss to Madeira.  Ostrander pulled out the first win 7-6 and followed with a 6-2 score to take the win at first singles.  Thomas fell at second singles 3-6, 2-6, while Sam Miller lost 2-6, 2-6 at third singles.  First doubles duo Hooper-Stamper were defeated 3-6, 1-6 and Neal-Bailey lost 4-6, 2-6 at second doubles.

 

ICYMI:  Elise Ostrander was nominated as a Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the week for the week of Sept. 3.  The freshman singles player won both matches at first singles at Goshen and Anderson last week and led the Lady Eagles at the time with a 5-3 overall record at No. 1 singles.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  At 5-0, Turpin leads the ECC standings, followed by Loveland who fell to 4-1 after a loss to Turpin. With a win over Milford, Walnut Hills improved to 4-2.  Last week Anderson (3-3) pulled ahead of Kings (2-4); West Clermont (0-4) and Milford (0-5) will play in the week ahead.

 

POLL WATCH:  Mason remained atop the standings in the area coaches’ poll for week six;  Ursuline Academy held at second as well.  Turpin of the ECC rose from fourth to third and Sycamore fell down again to fourth.  St. Ursula moved into fifth, forcing Mt. Notre Dame out of the top five to sixth. Loveland and Walnut Hills held at seventh and ninth respectively. Kings (7) again was the only ECC school to receive votes.
