Girls Tennis to Face Loveland, Turpin in Week Ahead

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Lady Eagles are back in action and will face two Eastern Cincinnati Conference opponents in the third week of the season.  The Eagles will be challenged by the Loveland Tigers and Turpin Spartans, and will host St. Ursula Academy for a non-conference match.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET:  Milford will face two conference rivals, both of whom were ranked in last week’s area coaches’ poll.  On Tuesday, Milford will host #6 Loveland, and will visit #5 Turpin on Thursday.

Tuesday, 8/28:             Loveland High School @ Milford, 4:30 pm

Wednesday, 8/29:        St. Ursula Academy B @ Milford, 4:30 pm

Thursday, 8/30:           Milford @ Turpin High School, 4:30 pm

 

A LOOK BACK:

August 20 at Seton:

Milford at Seton was postponed due to weather.

August 21 at Milford: Kings 4, Milford 1

Milford hosted Kings for the first conference match of the season and individual match scores were much closer than the final score.  Elise Ostrander scored Milford’s victory at first singles, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Guerin.  Emme Thomas won the first set 6-3 at second singles while Gostel of Kings earned the next two, both scores of 4-6.  Jackie Cooper fell to her opponent 3-6, 2-6.  The doubles pairings for Kings left with narrow wins. Emma Neal and Olivia Bailey nearly won over Coughlin-Ridenour at first doubles with finals of 4-6, 5-7, while Mathias-Melton defeated second doubles duo Sam Miller and Tiffany Lau 7-6, 6-2.

August 22 at Mariemont: Mariemont 5, Milford 0

The Eagles fell to Mariemont, ranked #7 in the Division II area coaches’ poll.  In singles play, Milford’s Ostrander lost to Spiegel 5-7, 3-6; Thomas lost 1-6, 2-6 to Linder; and Hooper fell to Taylor 1-6, 0-6.  Neal and Ashley Stamper were defeated at first doubles by Soller-Falknor 6-0, 6-0, while Bailey-Miller lost to Popowics-Frye with a final of 4-6, 3-6.

August 23 at West Clermont:

Milford at West Clermont was postponed.

  

POLL WATCH: There was a lot of activity in the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for week two, though Mason remains atop the rankings. Ursuline Academy moved up to second and the ECC’s Turpin rose to third from fifth.  St. Ursula fell from second to fourth, while Sycamore again fell a position to fifth.  Loveland is ranked seventh, down from last week’s ranking of sixth and Walnut Hills rose to eighth from ninth.  Anderson and Kings each received one vote for week two; Milford fell out of this week’s poll.  Find the most recent poll results HERE.
