Girls Track And Field To Kick Off 2019 Season At Kings’ Quad

Posted on: March 26, 2019

PREVIEWING THE EAGLES:  Veteran coach Dave Ackerman, who has led the boys cross country program for nearly 30 years, takes over Milford’s girls track and field team for the 2019 season.  Ackerman has ample track and field experience, having served as an assistant to the boys program the last 3 years as well as leading the boys program in 2013 and 1996-1999.

Andrea Armstrong, a track standout who is Northern Kentucky University commit, returns for her fourth and final Milford season.  Look for Armstrong to excel in the 200 meter and 400 meter runs, as well as the long jump.  At the 2018 ECC Championship Meet, Armstrong’s time of 58.00 in the 400 meter dash not only earned her the ECC individual championship but set a new school record, breaking the previous record of 58.20 set in 2006.  She also placed 2nd in the long jump, and 3rd in both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Armstrong qualified to run the 400 meter dash at the OHSAA Regional Meet after a fourth-place finish at Districts.  In 2018 Armstrong was named first team All-ECC in the 400 meter dash, and second team all-conference for long jump. She previously was recognized with all-conference honorable mention in 2016 and 2017.

Senior Haley Rodeffer returns as well to compete in both hurdle events.  At the 2018 OHSAA Division I Regional Meet, Rodeffer took 7th place in the 100 meter hurdles, and 8th place in the 300 meter hurdles. Rodeffer was a regular on the podium last season, and finished 3rd in the 100 hurdles at the ECC Championships.  She ended the year near the top of the conference rankings in both events; 3rd for the 100 meter hurdles, and 4th in the 300 meter hurdles.

Olivia Loeffler, a junior and a leader of the girls cross country team, returns in 2019 for distance events.  Loeffler will also compete in the pole vault, the first Milford athlete to do so since 2014.  Loeffler led the Eagles in the 800 and 1600 meter runs in 2018, and helped the team to a second-place finish at the Blue Heaven Invite with 2nd place finishes in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.

Among those returning for the season, the 2019 roster also includes a number of talented freshman who may help the Eagles including Madison Anoa'I, Jade Avance, Meredith Goff, Emma Kauscher, and Emmy Sager.

A LOOK AHEAD: Milford will open the season at the Kings Quad meet. Looking ahead, the Eagles will be at the Moeller Invitational the first week of April.
