Girls Volleyball Hosts Kings, Walnut Hills In Week Ahead

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Eagles added two to the win column last week, including their first Eastern Cincinnati Conference victory.  Milford’s squad will have an opportunity to move up in the conference standings as they host Walnut Hills and Kings in the week ahead.

  

A LOOK BACK:  Milford collected their first ECC win of the season Tues., Sept. 5 at home, a 3-1 victory over West Clermont in the first meeting of the two schools.  The Lady Eagles started the night with a comfortable 25-13 win in set one before the Wolves came back for a 22-25 win to even the games.  Though the remaining sets were close, Milford pulled out the win by taking sets three and four, 25-20 and 25-23.

Milford traveled to Turpin to take on the defending ECC champions on Thurs., Sept. 7.  The Eagles nearly took set one, but fell just short in 22-25.  The Spartans took the second set 25-17, then secured the 3-0 win with a 18-25 in the third.

The week ended on a high note Sat., Sept. 9th as Milford defeated Western Brown in straight sets; 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.  With the win, the Eagles improved to 4-5 overall.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford will host a pair of ECC schools before ending the week at Little Miami for nonconference match.  Walnut Hills will visit first, followed by Kings. 

  • Tuesday, 9/12:             Walnut Hills High School @ Milford, 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, 9/14:            Kings High School @ Milford, 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, 9/16:            Milford @ Little Miami High School, 12:00 pm

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  Loveland and Anderson remain tied atop the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings, both improving to 4-0 in the ECC last week.  Turpin improved to 3-1 followed by Kings at 2-2, while Milford, West Clermont and Walnut Hills are all 1-3.  Withrow is 0-4.  Lady Eagles who are currently ranked in the top ten of the ECC include:

Attacks:  Cami Malott (1), Kristen Bales (6)

Serves:  Lisa Sullivan (t-7), Tatum Skladany (t-7)

Assists:  Abby Thierauf (3)

Digs:  Sullivan (1), Bales (3), Ava Stokes (8)

Blocks:  Erica Sharp (t-4)

Passing:  Bales (9)

 

POLL WATCH:   Ursuline Academy maintained the top ranking of the latest area coaches’ poll, and the top four remained unchanged as well; Mount Notre Dame, Mason, and Mercy.  However, the ECC’s Loveland moved up to fifth while St. Ursula fell to sixth. 

Anderson, previously ninth, moved up to seventh.  Milford received one vote, joined by Turpin (3), and Kings and Walnut Hills each received two votes in the Enquirer’s poll for week four.
