Girls Volleyball Opens Postseason With Lakota West

SETTING THE SCENE:  Ending the regular season with a conference win, the Milford girls volleyball team now turns their attention to the postseason.  The Eagles’ volleyball squad has been seeded No. 18 and will open sectional play facing Lakota West in the OHSAA Division I Tournament, which begins this week.  The Eagles end the regular season 8-14 overall, and with a 3-11 conference record.

 

A LOOK BACK:  In the final week of ECC play, Kings hosted the MHS girls volleyball team on Tues., Oct. 10.  The Eagles weren’t able to collect the road win and fell to Kings in straight sets, 25-12, 25-19, 25-20.

Milford dominated throughout Thursday’s match with Withrow, the final of the regular season for the Eagles.  The Lady Eagles, who defeated Withrow earlier in the year, swept the Tigers in straight sets of 25-3, 25-5, 25-3.

  

THE WEEK AHEAD - POSTSEASON SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT:  The OHSAA Sectional Tournament will take place October 17th through October 25th.  The volleyball Eagles will open tournament play against Lakota West on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Lakota East High School.  Milford is seeded No. 18 for the tournament and will be facing the Lakota West (No. 14) for the first time this season.  The Firebirds finished fifth in the Greater Miami Conference, 10-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference play.  Should the Eagles advance, they will face the winner of #17 Kings/#16 West Clermont on Sat., Oct. 21st at 2:30 pm.

INSIDE THE ECC:  The ECC team championship will be claimed by Loveland, who finished a perfect 14-0 in the ECC and 20-2 overall. Despite a young roster and an 0-6 start, the team from Turpin rebounded and will finish second in the conference at 11-3, followed by Anderson (10-4), West Clermont (7-7), Kings (6-8), Walnut Hills (5-9), Milford (3-11) and Withrow (0-14).  At the conclusion of the regular season, the following Lady Eagles are ranked in the top ten of the ECC:

Attacks:  Kristen Bales (t-1), Cami Malott (t-1), Morgan Whitaker (t-1)

Serves:  Tatum Skladany (8)

Assists:  Abby Thierauf (5), Abby Soutter (10)

Digs: Lisa Sullivan (4), Bales (6)

POLL WATCH: The final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll of the 2017 season has been released, and Ursuline Academy will end the year at the top for Division I girls volleyball. The remaining top five teams are Mount Notre Dame, Mercy, Mason and the ECC’s Loveland. St. Ursula, Seton, Oak Hills, and Anderson and Turpin round out the top ten. Walnut Hills (2) and West Clermont (1) each received votes in the final poll.
