Girls Volleyball Will Play Middletown in Sectional Opener

SETTING THE SCENE: The season starts anew as the Lady Eagles look to make a run in the postseason.  Milford split their final two matches last week and ended the regular season with a 7-13 overall record.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET - OHSAA SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT:  OHSAA Sectional Tournament play will begin Oct. 15, and continue through Oct. 20.  The volleyball Eagles are seeded #18, and will open tournament play with #26 Middletown.  Middletown is a member of the Greater Miami Conference, and finished with a 0-9 conference record and 7-13 overall.  One of Middletown’s seven victories was a 3-0 defeat of Withrow early in the season.

Milford will take on Middletown at Lakota East High School on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m.  Should the Lady Eagles win to advance, they will play #7 Seton on Sat., Oct. 20 at 5:30 pm.

A LOOK BACK:

October 9 at Walnut Hills: Milford 3, Walnut Hills 0

Milford took the match with Walnut Hills, the second victory over the other Eagles this season. Milford defeated Walnut Hills in straight sets of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-14. 

October 11 at Milford: Turpin 3, Milford 0

Teammates and fans honored seniors Molly Buck, Lindsey Strathman, Cami Mallott, and Erica Sharp prior hosting Turpin in their final game on the home court; they fell to Turpin 23-25, 23-25, 23-25.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Loveland has claimed the ECC title following a perfect 14-0 record in the conference. Turpin ended the year second at 11-3, with West Clermont and Anderson tied for third.  Kings (7-7) finished fifth, while Milford and Walnut Hills, both 4-10, end the year tied for sixth followed by Withrow at 0-14.

Attacks:  Erica Sharp (.274)

Service Ace: Julia Gill (39 – ranked 6th in ECC); Emily Morgan (34 – ranked 9th in ECC)

Assists:  Abby Thierauf (439 – ranked 3rd in ECC)

Digs:  Morgan (261 – ranked 5th in ECC)

Blocks:  Erica Sharp (57 – ranked 6th in ECC)

 

POLL WATCH: The final area coaches’ poll has been released, and Ursuline, Mercy McAuley, Mt. Notre Dame, Mason and St. Ursula will end the season as the top five programs.  held their positions. The ECC’s Loveland is sixth, followed by Lakota East, Seton, Turpin and Oak Hills rounding out the top ten.  Other ECC programs receiving votes in the final poll include Anderson (8) and West Clermont (1).  Find the final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll HERE.
