Hot Girls Hoops Squad Heads Into Season’s Busiest Week

Posted on: January 8, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE: Riding a season-long four-game winning streak, the Milford High School girls basketball squad is back in action this week as it embarks on a full three-game slate. Coming off of a pair of huge Eastern Cincinnati Conference victories last week, the Eagles have gone back over the .500 mark at 6-5 overall and 3-4 in league play. Holding a tie for fifth in a highly competitive ECC race, the Eagles will start the week with a pair of non-conference tilts before refocusing on conference play. Monday night brings a visit from Madeira, before the Eagles take to the road for a battle at Mercy on Wednesday night. The second half of the league schedule kicks off on Saturday afternoon when Milford plays host to Anderson.

A LOOK BACK: January 4 vs. Kings: Milford 58, Kings 57 (2 OT)

THE SHORT STORY

Milford saw a 14-point fourth quarter evaporate before holding on for a thrilling 58-57 double overtime win over conference-leading Kings. The Knights came roaring back in the fourth period, outscoring the Eagles by a 23-11 margin, including a clutch game-tying three-pointer by Taylor Brown as time wore down. In the first overtime, Tori Gilman made a lay-up with just two seconds remaining to knot the score at 53 and force the second extra session. Brown came up large again in the second OT, tying the game at 57 with a three-pointer with just under three minutes remaining. Hannah Thierauf split a pair of free throws with 2:05 left for what proved to be the final points. Missed shots were the story of the last two minutes and Kings had the final chance but Hayden White blocked Carolyn Bruns’ game-winning shot attempt as time expired.
