Lady Eagles Cross Country Will Run at Centerville Saturday Night Lights

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Lady Eagles placed fifth among sixteen teams at the Milford Invitational, an impressive finish at Valley View Nature Preserve.  The weather outlook is more positive for their next event, and evening run at the Centerville Saturday Night Lights.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: Milford’s next event is the Centerville Saturday Night Lights races on Sat., Sept. 22 at Centerville High School.  This unique event starts in the early afternoon hours with elementary school age races, and continues with junior high and high school race events.  The girls open race is scheduled for 7:05 pm, and the varsity Lady Eagles will take to the start line at 8:20 pm.  There is an admission/parking charge to park at the high school; $5 for one individual in the car OR $10 for a carload.  Click HERE for the full schedule.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Over 140 individual runners participated in the varsity girls race.  The Lady Eagles finished 5th of the 16 teams, an improvement from the 6th place finish in 2017.  With a time of 20:26, Emmy Sager crossed the finish in 13th.  Olivia Loeffler was close behind Sager in 16th with a new season best time of 20:40.  The remaining ladies finished close together as well:  Emma Beck (22:24, 47th); Emily Rodeffer 52nd, 22:30; Gretchen Feldkamp (57th season’s best 22:34;  Claire Perrin (58th) with a new career best 22:37; and Sam Conrad 59th, 22:38.

With all five scorers finishing in the top ten, the ladies of Lakota East took the team championship at the Milford Invite with 26 points.  The ECC’s Turpin (47) finished second, followed by Lebanon (126), Walnut Hills (144) and Milford (166).  Sophomore Carly Spletzer of Lakota East won the individual title, crossing the finish in 19:17.  The top ECC individual finisher was Ella Lambert in 7th place (19:48).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  Milford’s overall record is now 32-18.  As of Sept. 16, the following Milford runners rank in the top third of the ECC Standings: Emmy Sager (13th), Olivia Loeffler (21st), Emma Beck (39th), Sam Conrad (t-45th), Emily Rodeffer (48th), Gretchen Feldkamp (t-51st), Claire Perrin (53rd) and Brooke Stansell (63rd).

 

POLL WATCH: For the second consecutive week, Lakota East, Mason, and ECC programs Turpin, Kings, and Loveland are in the top five of the area coaches’ poll.  Week four finds Anderson in tenth again as well.
