Lakota Fall Classic On Tap For Cross Country Teams

Posted on: August 22, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE: After a summer of conditioning and building up mileage, Milford High School’s cross country teams will hit the trails for the first time this season at the Lakota Fall Classic.  While the girls team returns four ladies who regularly ran at the varsity level, the boys team will look much different with a fresh group of runners for 2018.

BOY’S PREVIEW:  The Eagles lost their 2017 starting roster to graduation, among them four year varsity member Harris Craycraft.  Craycraft’s outstanding career came to an end at the OHSAA Regionals, the first time in four years Milford had a representative competing at Regionals.

However, with seventeen years as head coach, Dave Ackerman believes the young roster presents an opportunity for growth as the program looks to build on progress made over the upcoming season.

Returners to the roster with varsity expectations are juniors Payne Ackermann and Karl Chavez, as well as sophomores A.J. Kaylor and Dylan Mullarkey.  Senior A.J. Dickerson joins the team in 2018 after a successful track season, earning second team all-ECC honors after a second place finish at the ECC Meet in the 800 meter run.

GIRL’S PREVIEW:  Coach Matt Jorden enters his second year at the helm of the Lady Eagles, and looks to build on the hard work and progress over the last year.

Jorden welcomes a number of returning runners back to the team for the 2018 season, including juniors Emma Beck and Olivia Loeffler, and Gretchen Feldkamp and Brooke Stansell, both sophomores.  Jorden looks for Sam Conrad, Ayla Grabenbauer and Emmy Sager to be among the freshmen to contribute this season as well.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The season opens for both squads at the Lakota Fall Classic on Saturday, Aug. 25th at Voice of America Park.  Varsity boys will race at 9:00 am, followed by the girls varsity at 9:30 am.  The boys and girls open races will begin at 10:00 am and 10:30 am respectively.  VOA will be charging for park admission ($5 per car).

BOYS POLL WATCH: St. Xavier opens the year at the top of the preseason Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll for at least the fourth consecutive season.  Mason is ranked second, while the ECC is represented by Turpin and Kings in third and fourth.  Elder begins the year ranked fifth, while Anderson is sixth.  Lakota West, LaSalle, Lebanon and Lakota East round out the top ten.  Loveland (6) and Walnut Hills (1) each received votes in the preseason poll which was released on Monday, Aug. 13.  Find the most recent area coaches' poll HERE.
