Posted on: May 23, 2021

On the heels of a season that saw them win a share of the ECC Championship and 22 games, the Milford Softball team has seen eight members of this year’s roster earn all-conference honors. In addition, seniors Sam Boothby and Emily Allphin have been recognized by the area coaches as all-district selections. The leader of the Eagles, veteran head coach Christy Gregory was also voted by her peers as the ECC Coach of the Year for the fifth time.

The headliner for the Eagles is Boothby, named the ECC Co-Player of the Year, as well as an all-district first team choice. Allphin was also one of five Eagles to be named to the ECC first team, while picking up second team all-district accolades. The balance of the award winners included fellow first team All-ECC picks Olivia Craycraft, Taylor Stemmerding and Brooklyn Stewart. Representing Milford on the second team were Mollie Bloom and Avery Fielman, with honorable mention Kaitlyn Bibb rounding out the list.

Boothby was the most productive hitter in the league, finishing her senior campaign as the ECC leader with 54 RBI. She was also in the top-five in both hitting (.568) and home runs (6) and tacked on 12 doubles and two triples. Boothby was the Eagles’ primary pitcher for the first half of the season, finishing the campaign with 11 wins.

Allphin also earned 11 wins in the circle and like Boothby was a force at the plate all season. A .528 hitter for the season, she totaled 11 doubles, four home runs and 29 RBI.

Craycraft was the sparkplug at the top of the Eagle line-up and as the starting shortstop all year. For the year, Craycraft batted .434 with nine doubles, three triples and 22 RBI. She also tied for third in the league with 13 stolen bases in 13 chances.

Stemmereding occupied centerfield and the No. 2 slot in the line-up and ended up with a .468 batting average for the year. Her final numbers also showed 12 doubles, four triples, a pair of home runs and 24 RBI.

Stewart was a force at the plate and behind it, finishing in the top-five in the league with a .560 batting average. Her 13 doubles were among the league’s best. Stewart also clubbed three triples and three homers, driving in 28 and stealing seven bases. At catcher, Stewart had five pickoffs, threw out eight potential base stealers and committed just four passed balls.

Bloom anchored the bottom third of the Eagle batting order, while playing an outstanding right field. Her junior campaign featured seven doubles, one home run and 20 RBI, with just one error in the field.

Fielman’s first varsity season produced a .500 batting average as the Eagle clean-up hitter. The corner infielder trailed only Boothby on the Eagle rankings with 31 RBI, while tallying 11 doubles and one home run.

Playing second base all year, Bibb also had a great junior year. Her final numbers showed eight doubles, a homer and 24 RBI.
