Leaving Her Legacy: Tennis Senior Elise Ostrander

Posted on: October 29, 2021

Over the last three years, a resurgence of success has been enjoyed by the Milford Girls Tennis team. At the center, senior Elise Ostrander.

Throughout her career, and even as a freshman, Elise has held the No. 1 spot in the Eagle line-up. During that freshman season, despite Elise’s 8-5 record, the Eagles won just two matches as a team. Fast forward to this fall when Milford earned a second place finish in the ECC and had a 15-2 record to its credit.

Along the way, Elise has earned all-conference honors all four years, including first team All-ECC in each of the last two. She’s also finished in the top-four at the ECC Tournament all four years of her career. That’s no small feat, playing against the top players in an always competitive conference. She also advanced to the qualifier round at sectionals in each of the last three years.

As good as Elise has been on the court (final career record of 67-24), it’s the way she has carried herself off the court that has caught the eye of her coach, Michael Neverman. Coach Neverman has watched Elise develop, first as her junior high coach, and then for the past four campaigns in high school. It’s easy to see, she’s left a lasting impression on her long-time coach.

“Elise is truly one of a kind,” Coach Neverman says. “Since I’ve known her, I’ve never heard a single complaint or excuse from Elise, not one; I can’t say that about anyone else. That speaks volumes about her character; she is hardworking and very disciplined.

“Elise is a big part of the turnaround of the program,” he continued. “She helped raise the standard, push her teammates, and set a great example for the girls coming in behind her. Elise is a player I will remember forever. I will tell stories about her for years to come; she is very deserving of all the recognition she receives.”
