Loveland Invitation Awaits Girls Cross Country

SETTING THE SCENE:  As they do every year, the Lady Eagles opened the season at the Lakota East Classic, and the team finished sixth with a mix of veteran and new team members. Looking ahead, week two finds the squad headed close to home at the Loveland Invitational.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: Next up for the Lady Eagles; the Loveland Invitational at Home of the Brave Park. The girls varsity will take the starting line at 10:30 am, while the girls open will begin at 11:30 am.  A parking fee of $5.00 will be charged for each car.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford’s girls cross country team finished sixth of eleven teams competing at the Lakota East Classic.  Emmy Sager, running in her first varsity race, led Milford with a 20:27, good for 13th place.  Sager was followed by junior Olivia Loeffler (24th, 21:34) and freshman Sam Conrad (38th, 22:38).  Gretchen Feldkamp finished 46th (23:07), and the sophomore crossed just ahead of freshman Emily Rodeffer (48th, 23:11) and junior Emma Beck (29th, 23:15).  Kat Perez rounded out the Eagles, as the senior finished with a new career PR of 23:45, good for 64th.

Lakota East won the team title at their own Invitational, while Turpin and Kings of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference finished second and third respectively.   Wyoming was fourth followed by another pair of ECC members, Walnut Hills and Milford.  Sam Bush of Turpin, a name familiar to those in the cross country world the past few years, won the individual title with a time of 18:56  Carly Spletzer of Lakota East (19:14) was the runner-up, followed by Brooke Garter of Kings (19:26).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Emmy Sager sits just outside the top ten of the standings for the Eastern Cincinnati Conference early in the season.  Sager is currently 12th, followed by the following Lady Eagles in the top half of the standings: Olivia Loeffler (22nd); Sam Conrad (39th); Gretchen Feldkamp (29th); Emily Rodeffer (53rd); Emma Beck (t-56th); Brooke Stansell (77th); Brooklyn George (79th); Libby Mailloux (82nd); Brianna Mullarkey (85th); and Kat Perez (86th).

 

POLL WATCH:  Lakota East maintained first in the area coaches’ poll for week one.  Ursuline Academy, ranked second the prior week, fell four positions to fifth and was replaced by Mason.  The ECC’s Turpin rose to third from fifth while Kings held at fourth.  Loveland, who received just six votes in the preseason poll, entered the top ten at sixth and Anderson held at eighth.
