A LOOK BACK: April 2 at Kings: Kings 3, Milford 2

 

GAME REWIND

Kings scored the winning run on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 3-2 ECC-opening win over Milford. After falling behind in the bottom of the first, the Eagles battled back with runs in the fourth on a Sam Boothby RBI single and in the sixth on a Hillary Huffer run-scoring hit. But Kings was able to battle back to tie the game in its half of the sixth before taking the win in the seventh.

GAME REWIND

The Eagles scored three runs in the second inning and again in the fourth to gain a measure of retribution over Kings with a 7-5 victory. Sam Boothby earned her first career win in the circle and benefited from a strong relief effort from Hillary Huffer who covered the final three frames for a save.

 

Milford started the day with a first inning RBI single by Katelyn Reynolds and opened a four-run lead an inning later when Olivia Craycraft cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Kings came back to tie the game with three in the third and another in the fourth before the Eagles went in front to stay with a three-run fourth. Freshman Taylor Stemmerding broke the tie with an RBI single and two batters later, it was Emily Allphin’s two-run double that put the home team in control.

GAME REWIND

Katelyn Reynolds and Emily Allphin both homered and it took the Eagles only six innings to finish off Springboro as Milford rolled to a 12-2 victory. The Eagles led 5-1 after three innings but stretched it out late with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Allphin added to her home run with a double, finishing with three hits, three runs and four RBI.

 

Reynolds got the Eagles off on the right foot with her first inning homer and one inning later, it was a two-RBI triple by Olivia Craycraft that helped Milford open a 4-1 lead. Allphin, Sam Boothby and Brooklyn Stewart all gathered RBI in the fifth, while Allphin’s three-run homer highlighted the sixth.

GAME REWIND

Milford ran into an undefeated Western Brown team and pitcher Sydni Barnes in the first game of Friday Night Lights, falling by a 3-0 score to the Broncos. Barnes held the Eagles to just two hits, while striking out six in the shutout. Western Brown did all of its damage early with a two-run first inning and a single run in the second.

GAME REWIND

After being shutout earlier in the night, the Eagles bounced back with a season-high 14 hits on their way to an 11-7 win over Greenville in the Friday Night Lights nightcap. The win was far from easy as the Eagles had to put together three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to overcome a 7-4 deficit.

 

The Eagles’ first big hit of the night came from freshman Kaitlyn Bibb who picked up an RBI triple in the third. Hillary Huffer had the big hit of the fourth inning when she cleared the bases with a double. The big hit of the fifth came courtesy of Emily Allphin who continued her hot hitting with a two-RBI triple.

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLE: The only senior on the Milford roster this spring has already announced her plans to continue playing softball on the collegiate level next year. Katelyn Reynolds signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Akron beginning this fall.
