McNicholas, Final ECC Match Ahead For Boys Volleyball

SETTING THE SCENE:  The MHS boys volleyball team can secure at least a share of the unofficial Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship this week when they face Walnut Hills, the final conference match of the season.  The Eagles will first hope for another upset when they host McNicholas, a team ranked in the top ten of the area coaches’ poll.  The squad won two of three last week and area now 9-4 overall.

  

A LOOK BACK:  Milford opened the week with a Monday trip to face LaSalle, ranked fourth in the South Region of the OHSBVA.  The Lancers were among the best teams the Eagles have faced to date, and swept the match in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18.

Milford bounced back when they hosted Withrow, a program in just their second year of existence. The Eagles won all three, taking the victory 25-7, 25-8, 25-18.

The Milford brought home a win over West Clermont later in the week.  In front of a spirited home crowd for the Wolves, the Eagles won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-15.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The Eagles begin the week hosting #10 McNicholas and end at Colerain.  In between Milford will host Walnut Hills, the final ECC matchup of the season. 

  • Monday, 5/1:               McNicholas High School @ Milford, 6:30 pm
  • Tuesday, 5/2:               Walnut Hills High School High School @ Milford, 6:45 pm
  • Thursday, 5/4:             Milford @ Colerain High School, 6:00 pm

 

POLL WATCH:  Milford ranked tenth in the South Region of the OHSBVA poll for the week ending April 30th.  Elder was the top ranked team followed by St. Xavier, Moeller, LaSalle and Oak Hills.  Milford is the only ECC team ranked in the top ten of the South Region for the week.

There were no changes in week five of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll, which includes all   Elder, St. Xavier, Moeller, Lakota East and LaSalle remain the top five programs to receive votes.  McNicholas, previously ranked seventh, fell to tenth. Once again, both Milford and Loveland of the ECC received votes (3) in this week’s poll.
