MHS Boys Cross Country To OHSAA District Championship

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Milford boys cross country team, with six new career or season bests from the ECC Championships, now turn their attention to the OHSAA Southwest District Championships this Saturday, Oct. 24 at Voice of America Park. 

 

A LOOK BACK:  Four juniors led the way for Milford’s cross country team, while the top six runners finished with new career or season best records.  Clayton Virzi was the first of the Eagles to the finish line, with a career best, 16:50.  Virzi was 10th overall, and was followed by Harris Craycraft in 16th, with a season’s best 17:08, and Peter Kroeger in 17th with a new personal best of 17:11.  A pair of Eagles finished together just a short time later.  Sean Vonderhaar’s 21st place time of 17:18 was a new career record, and freshman Luke Schneider set a new career best of 17:19, good for 22nd place.  Junior Will Stout helped the Eagles with a PR of 18:37, and Jake Young finished his senior season in 19:23, in 41st place.

Joe Ingram of Anderson won the boys championship, with a time of 16:08.  Turpin’s Ben Gothard was second (16:13), while Greg Ballman of Loveland finished third with a time of 16:23.

Though they had no runners in the top three, the squad from Kings won the team ECC championship, as their top runners finished in the top 4 – 8 spots.  Turpin placed second, and Loveland was third.  Milford finished fourth, equaling their finish from last year, followed by Anderson and Walnut Hills.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The 2016 OHSAA Southwest District Championships will take place on Sat., Oct. 22 at Voice of America Park in West Chester.  Voice of America Metro Park is located at 7850 VOA Park Dr, West Chester, 45069.

Two races will be held for the boys in Division I.  The Eagles are scheduled for Race B (2), which will include twelve teams and will begin at 11:30 am.  The top four teams will advance to Regionals, as will the top sixteen individuals.

  1. Parking: There will NOT be a charge for park admittance and/or parking.
  2. Admission to Cross Country Course: $6.00 for all spectators (including seniors/school aged kids, and athletes/ coaches not included on pass list).

Schools participating at the Division I West Chester location for boys races include Amelia, Anderson, Archbishop Moeller, Colerain, Elder, Fairfield, Glen Este, Hamilton, Harrison, Kings, Lakota East, Lakota West, LaSalle, Little Miami, Loveland, Mason, Milford, Mt. Healthy, Northwest, Oak Hills, Princeton, St. Xavier, Sycamore, Turpin, Walnut Hills, Western Brown, Winton Woods, and Woodward.

 

POLL WATCH:   St. Xavier will end the season at the top of the final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll.  St. Xavier received eleven first place votes, and Mason followed in second with two first place votes.  LaSalle finished in third, and the ECC’s Kings and Elder end the year in fourth and fifth.  Turpin moved up to ninth, while Loveland fell from seventh to tenth to end the season.  Anderson (6) was the only ECC program to receive votes in the final poll of 2016.
