Milford’s Bronaugh And Murphy Named All-Tourney; Indian Hill Up Next For Wrestling

Posted on: January 9, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  The weekend got off to a great start, as Milford senior Jimmy Murphy was selected as the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Top Wrestler of the Week for January 2nd for his 100th and 101st wins against New Richmond.  The team then headed to the west side to compete at the Oak Hills Duals.

A LOOK BACK:  Jimmy Murphy continued his outstanding senior season at the Oak Hills Duals.  An impressive weekend record of 8-0 with six falls led to Murphy (132#) named to the All-Tournament Team.  Murphy’s teammate Kobey Bronaugh (113#) joined him on the All-Tournament Team, as Bronaugh went 7-0 with seven falls over the two day tournament.

Senior Kyle Brady (145#) wrestled in all 10 duals over the weekend and finished 6-4 on the weekend with four falls.  Classmate Daniel Wilson shone as well, with a 7-3 record including four falls.  The senior group of Murphy, Brady, Wilson, Vance Geeslin, Graham Martin, and Blake Miller led the way with a collective 31-16 record and 18 falls.

Sophomore Jack Ward, along with freshmen Tristan Messerschmidt and Derek Elliot and are seeing considerable time on varsity this season as well.  The three young men wrestled to a 12-18 record at the Duals and will only improve in the future as they continue to see time on the mats.

The Eagles left with a 5-5 record from the Duals, including two close losses to Glen Este and Colerain.  Many of the other matches often came down to the last one or two matches, so it was an exciting two days for the Eagles and their Flock.

POLL WATCH:  Elder held on to keep their first place ranking in week five of the Division I Cincinnati Enquirer coaches’ poll, followed again by Mason and LaSalle.  However, Harrison and Fairfield swapped places for fourth and fifth this week.  The ECC’s Loveland, who was ranked eighth last week, fell out of the poll but received sixteen votes.  Glen Este received three votes in week five and is the only other ECC program to receive votes in the latest poll.
