Milford’s Nathan McGeorge Learns From Experience At Junior Gold Bowling Tourney

Posted on: November 14, 2016

Nathan McGeorge, a junior on the Milford Bowling team, competed for a U15 national title at the Junior Gold Bowling Tournament this offseason.

McGeorge qualified for the 2016 Junior Gold tournament with his performance at The Junior Tournament Bowlers Association event, held in March of 2016 at the Sequoia Pro Bowl in Columbus.  Bowling a five game series of 952, McGeorge survived the final cut of the tournament and was one of just two bowlers to advance to the national tournament.

The Junior Gold Tournament consisted of practice and festivities followed by four days of qualifying rounds.  “On the first day of tournament play, I remember walking in and feeling the atmosphere being completely different, unlike any other match, tournament, or league play I had ever been in,” McGeorge said.  “The mindset was different, the preparation and focus was more intense than for any other day of bowling.”

McGeorge finished 135th out of over 500 participants, quite an achievement for a first-time competitor.

Frank Ritzmann, Milford’s bowling coach, knows this experience was quite an accomplishment for a high school bowler. “Nathan will be one of the top bowlers in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference and Cincinnati.  This kind of experience, from the Junior Gold Nationals tournament, will definitely help him to overcome the pressures of end of season tournaments.”

Reflecting on his time on the national stage, McGeorge shared, “Overall, I feel that the outcome I had at the Junior Gold tournament was hands-down one of the best experiences of my life. Over the seven days in Indianapolis, the tournament taught me different things physically and mentally in order to take my game to the next level this year in high school.”
