Milford’s Bronaugh Named All-Tourney; Eagles Host First Home Match This Week

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Milford wrestling squad will host Indian Hill at their first match of the season Thurs., 1/11. The Eagles found themselves among tough competition last week, but celebrated junior Kobey Bronaugh as he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Oak Hills Duals. 

 

A LOOK BACK:  The Eagles headed to Wilmington, where they met up with Western Brown (#5 in the Div. II-III poll) as well as New Richmond.  Though Milford ended the day 0-2 overall, there were a number of close matches.

The Eagles were shutout with Western Brown, but following that loss the team came back and wrestling strong against New Richmond.  The head to head score of 30-18 ended in Milford’s favor, the Eagles recorded the loss due to forfeits.

Milford ended the week at the Oak Hills Duals on both Sat., 1/6 and Sun., 1/7.  Despite going 0-10 in the team matches, the Eagles did collect a number of wins in individual matches including a 19-13 record on Sunday.  One of the highlights included winning six of seven matches against ECC rival Anderson.  

The Eagles were led by Kobey Bronaugh with a 9-0 record for the weekend and the champion in the #126 weight class.  Bronaugh was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive year, earning the honors in 2017 in the #113 bracket. 

Three Eagles went the distance with ten full matches including Derek Elliott (#160) who went 5-5 over the weekend, as well as freshmen and new varsity members Chad Lynn and Hayden Harvey.

SCHEDULE:  Milford will be home for the first time this season, as they host Indian Hill, #7 in the Div. II-III poll.  The Eagles will then have a rare break, with no dates on the schedule until the following week.

POLL WATCH:   LaSalle maintained the lead in the most recent area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer for week six. LaSalle is followed by Elder, Harrison and Mason, while Western Brown moved up to fifth. The ECC’s Loveland held at eighth while West Clermont moved into the top ten, ranked ninth.
